Tough issue. Essentially, the audible difference between 44.1 and 48 is really hard to hear. If you want to try it, here's some test files.

Try to do a blind test and see if you can hear any difference. I was hard pressed, and had to work to find any difference when I last did this. It's really only possible with headphones on (for me).

That said, the reason 44.1khz is because it's the most widespread format that is supported with playback equipment. Burning 48khz to an audio CD without resampling and playing it will sound wrong (much more noticeable than playing them back on a computer like the link above), and I don't know of many CD players that will resample the signal for you on the fly...

I don't see a problem with providing 48khz archival copies of your recordings here. However, I think it's best if you also upload a 44.1khz copy for the folks that burn CD's and you clearly label which of the 2 is CD quality. Here's an example from a 24bit/96khz recording, take a look at the link on the left for "other copies".

Also - make sure you do *not* allow derivatives of your 48khz files. The derivatives (if you allow any) should be created from the 44.1khz copies for now.

Sure, lots of stuff to add to that now. It's on my "to-do" list Tyler. :)
